The RP5 utilizes a caterpillar drive and its chassis is constructed from two symmetrical trays with well integrated motors and spur gear transmissions. In addition, the wheel axles and drive shafts are supported in sintered bearings, offering high lifetime efficiency. The rubber made “tank” tracks are driven by 44mm diameter wheels; this, combined with the well-designed drive allows the robot the to climb over small obstacles as well as making its way up any steep gradients. And finally, two independently controllable electric motors ensure highest mobility of the chassis and the speed and direction of each track is freely controllable.
